* The DSF grants a total of 7 scholarships of Ђ 1000,- each per month. (applications from Central Asia especially welcome) The Admissions Committee decides about who will receive a scholarship. There will be no distinctions between German and foreign applicants. Interest in a

Certificates and other documentary evidence must be provided in German or English. Translations must be officialy certified. Only complete documents received on time will be accepted. affects your daily life as youth and what you can do to overcome it.

Participate now and have your voice heard! The World Bank and its partners
invite you to participate in the International Essay Competition 2007 to
share your experience and ideas on fighting corruption.

Answer both topic questions:

1) How does corruption affect your life?

2) What can you do to fight the corruption that you face?

If you have been personally involved in concrete initiatives, write
specifically about your experience: How did you recognize corruption? Who
have you worked with? Who have you helped? What have you accomplished? In
what way would you consider this work to be innovative? How have you measured
the results of your work? How would you improve your impact? How can other
youth replicate your experience?

If you don?t have practical experience, write specifically about your ideas:

How would you work to fight the corruption that you face?

The competition is open to students and non-students alike, able to submit
their essay in either English, French or Spanish.

How long should your essay be?

Your essay may not be longer than 10 pages (4000 words maximum), 1.5
line-spaced.

You are also required to provide an abstract of no more than one page. An
abstract is a short summary in which you explain the aim, the methodology,
the reasoning and the main conclusions of your paper.

The abstract will be used by the jury to make a pre-selection.

You may submit your paper and abstract in English, French or Spanish.

How to submit your essay?

The submission process for the Essay Competition 2007 is entirely
Internet-based.

Essays submitted by email or post will not be accepted.

Программа «Связи сообществ» предоставляет широкую возможность американскому народу и народам стран Центральной Азии работать совместно в решении общих профессиональных вопросов и вместе с тем обогатить свои социальные и культурные взаимоотношения. Важно отметить, что быстро развивающаяся интеграция профессиональных и деловых взаимоотношений сообществ двух стран способствует позитивным изменениям в отношениях народов Америки и Центральной Азии. Данная программа предоставляет возможность лидерам профессиональных и деловых организаций Кыргызстана пройти практические тренинги в США и проживать в семьях американских граждан в течение 3-5 недель. Программа, финансируется через USAID и является частью программы США по оказанию зарубежной помощи, финансируемой американским народом.

Для участия в программе “ Религия в светском обществе”, приглашаются лидеры различных вероисповеданий и сотрудники государственных структур, работающие в сфере религии, которые познакомятся с религиозным многообразием в США в мае 2007 года . Участники получат возможность узнать, как религиозные учреждения сотрудничают с государственными структурами и познакомятся с механизмами работы по защите религиозных прав в США. Особенное внимание будет уделяться деятельности религиозных благотворительных организаций, и какую роль они играют в жизни Американского общества.

Также участники программы узнают о защите религиозных прав в обществе, о положительной роли свободного вероисповедания, являющегося социальной движущей силой современного общества, влияющего на многие аспекты жизни, а также на безопасность государств. Участники данной программы познакомятся с практическим опытом по религиозному многообразию и религиозным правам. Лидеры духовенства познакомятся и смогут использовать в Кыргызстане методы и механизмы по защите религиозных прав, которые наилучшим образом могут применяться в обществе, где сосуществуют и сотрудничают представители различных конфессий, чем в обществе с одной превалирующей религией. В то же время работники государственных структур, принимающие участие в данной программе, получат новое видение о том, что права верующих необходимо защищать и что данный вопрос является одним их важнейших вопросов государственной политики.

Общие требования к кандидатам:

• Быть гражданином Кыргызской Республики;
• Проживать в Жалалабадской области или Узгенском районе Ошской области;
• Иметь опыт работы не менее 2-х лет в области религии;
• Хорошо владеть Кыргызским языком; и
• Не иметь препятствий для получения американской J -1 визы.

International Health Policy and Management

The Master of Science in International Health Policy and Management (IHPM) Program is pleased to announce a competition in which a full tuition and fees scholarship will be awarded to an early to midcareer development professional with a demonstrated commitment to effective health policy and management. The Scholarship for this one-year degree begins in August 2007.

The M.S. Program is designed to train students to take on increasingly responsible roles in health policy planning, and in the management of policy and program implementation in health ministries and planning agencies, multilateral and bilateral development organizations, and NGOs. Students in this one-year program learn how to make the best use of policy analysis to determine which plans work, which are the most cost-effective, and which are sensitive to a country’s values and culture.

The IHPM Scholar will receive full tuition and fee remission for the 2007/2008 academic year. The scholarship does NOT cover airfare, health insurance or any living expenses. Although nominations are encouraged from international and governmental development institutions and NGOs, self-nominations are accepted. Women and candidates with experience in policy, service delivery or education-related work with poor and vulnerable populations are especially encouraged to apply.

The School is intended for human rights activists, university teachers and representatives of the institutions from all levels of public administration dealing with human rights issues from Central, Eastern European and CIS countries. We are sorry to inform that our offer is limited in scope only to those who have not yet participated in our Summer or Winter Schools. The program is open to university graduates or last-year university students. Our programme combines lectures and workshops on the historical and philosophical background of human rights, domestic and international systems of human rights protection as well as applicability of rights of primary importance. The lectures will be given by renown professors, university teachers and experts in the field of human rights and international law. English and Russian are the working languages of our Summer School. Ability to communicate freely in one of ! the above is required.

Participants (65 people all together) will be selected by a selection committee on a competitive basis. In case of around 50 people the following expenses will be covered: international round-trip travel expenses (train, air or bus - economy rates) and accommodation in double rooms and meals during the course. Around 15 people may participate in the School under the condition that they partially cover the expenses themselves (according to what is stated in the application form). Lectures and workshops, translation of classes, educational materials, medical insurance while on the territory of Poland are free of charge provided that participants attend all classes. Visa expenses, domestic travel expenses within participants' countries and accommodation and meals while on travel will not be covered.

Основной целью программы « Права человека» является ознакомление правозащитников, представителей госорганов и юристов, представляющих частный сектор с существующими положениями прав человека в США и с механизмами реализации международных конвенций и соглашений по правам человека.

Участники программы будут иметь возможность ознакомиться с организациями и их лидерами по правам человека, правовыми институтами и с теми как они выполняют свои миссии; приобретут знания о правительственных и неправительственных организациях, о том как они продвигают и поддерживают программы по защите прав человека; узнают больше о роли защитников прав человека в США, а также роли правозащитных организаций в обществе.

Основные требования к кандидатам:

• Быть гражданином Республики Казахстан.

• Быть лидером или ответственным представителем вышеуказанных организации.

This CRC workshop is an application of the Varieties of Capitalism approach to the diversity of emerging capitalism in Central and Eastern Europe. The theme is readily connected to seminars in comparative politics and comparative political economy. It also invites faculty to debate the much discussed and sizable literature on varieties of capitalism in advanced countries. Academics teaching or planning to introduce this topic in their courses are encouraged to apply.

Nationalism and the Jews in Modern Times

March 26 * 30, 2007

The session co-organised with the Nationalism department proposes to explore the emergence of modern nationalism, with particular focus on the manifold challenges that faced the Jews of Eastern, Central and Western Europe as competing national ideologies demanded their allegiance or rejected them as totally unassimilable. It will examine relevant topics from the late 18th-century integration of Jews into European society until the late 20th-century fall of communism.

Emphasis will be placed on primary sources - and primary source collections - which can be used in teaching seminars and lecture classes. The session is recommended for teachers of History, Nationalism Studies and Jewish Studies who are interested in integrating new voices and perspectives in their teaching.
