BISHKEK. November 13. KAZINFORM. Researchers forecast several powerful earthquakes in Kyrgyzstan in the next three years, Marat Abdrakhmanov, the chief of the monitoring department at the country’s Ministry for Emergency Situations said Tuesday. He indicated that the forecast was based on the data that the ministry received from the Seismic Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences.
According to researchers information, the areas posing the biggest danger from the angle of view of earth crust movements are located along the border with Tajikistan and with China.
Also, the risks of seismic calamities are high in the Jalal-Abad and Osh regions, located in the Fergana Valley.
Seismic conditions in some areas of the Issyk-Kul, Chu, Naryn, and Talas regions that adjoin the branches of Tian Shan Mountains will also keep researchers and emergency officials on alert in the next five to seven years, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
Severe earthquakes have been registered in the Naryn and Batken regions in the past twelve months. They led to a destruction of more than a thousand buildings.
Computation of the damage from seismic calamities is still in progress. However, in both cases seismic surveyors managed to predict the timing and place of the earthquakes quite precisely. |
